Mitochondria
This illustration was created for a drug company for their promotional materials. I was asked to create a 3D illustration visualising the structure of a mitochondria. I decided to create a slice through model of the mitochondria showing the internal structures and it’s appearance from the complete outer surface.
Mitochondria are double-membraned organelles often referred to as the "powerhouses" of the cell due to their central role in energy production. They generate adenosine triphosphate (ATP) through oxidative phosphorylation, a process that occurs along the inner mitochondrial membrane within specialized protein complexes known as the electron transport chain. Mitochondria are unique among organelles because they contain their own circular DNA and ribosomes, enabling them to produce some of their own proteins independently of the nucleus.
