V-Y Advancement flap

A V-Y advancement flap is a surgical technique commonly used in plastic and reconstructive surgery to repair soft tissue defects while preserving both function and appearance. In this method, the surgeon designs a flap of skin and underlying tissue in the shape of a “V” near the area that needs reconstruction. The flap is then advanced forward into the defect, and the donor site is closed in a “Y” shape, hence the name “V-Y.” This approach maintains the local blood supply to the tissue, promotes optimal healing, and allows for movement of skin without excessive tension.
